About Midtown Reader:

Located in a historic neighborhood at the city's center, Midtown Reader opened in November of 2016 as Tallahassee's only general-subject, independent bookstore, selling new books. We build a loyal community of patrons through a regular variety of literary events and related cultural programming. From literary fiction, mysteries, poetry, and science fiction to young adult books, biographies, and cookbooks, Midtown Reader carries a selection of new and noteworthy books. We also showcase Florida authors and books about Florida's political, social, and natural history.

About Our Mission:

Midtown Reader is dedicated to being a meeting ground for readers of all backgrounds to read, think, and share together. We provide regular programming through our Kidtown Readers story hour, bookclubs, workshops, and open mic readings. We truly believe that when a person walks into a bookstore or has just the right book placed in their hands, their lives can be changed.

We are also dedicated to building strong relationships with Tallahassee and the community in it. We partner with the writing communities of Florida State University's nationally ranked Creative Writing Program, the nation's top HBCU, Florida A&M University, and one of the highest-ranked community colleges, Tallahassee Community College. We also partner with local literary, art, and historical organizations, such as the Tallahassee Writers Association, the Railroad Square Art District, The Holocaust Education Resource Center, Tallahassee Historical Society, Young Actors Theatre, and several others. We love our city and strongly believe in shopping local and creating the community that we want to be apart of.
