Authors in Schools

Midtown Reader is Tallahassee’s only independent bookstore selling new books. We host author readings, children’s events, & book clubs in our store, and frequently sell books at community events. We are especially proud to work with publishers & media specialists to coordinate author visits to local schools!

Since we opened in 2016, we’ve brought authors like Karina Yan Glaser, Cassie Beasley, Eric Litwin, Sylvia Acevedo, Brad Meltzer, Laurel Snyder, Faith Harkey, Kate DiCamillo, and Mac Barnett to:

Kate Sullivan Elementary

 Gilchrist Elementary

Roberts Elementary

 Maclay School

 Holy Comforter Episcopal

 DeSoto Trail Elementary

 Cobb Elementary

 And others!

How Authors-in-Schools Events Work

We are a full service event provider! Midtown Reader creates pre-order forms and handles distribution of books, accounting, author transportation, & supplies for school events. And students get a 20% discount! Our goal is to put a book in the hands of every child in Leon County. We are working with the superintendent’s office & independent donors in an attempt to fund book donations for students in Title 1 schools. If your school wants to discuss hosting an author, please email our events coordinator Caylee at Introduce us to your school, and let us know who to contact when we have an author scheduled so that we can make an event happen at your school. And don’t forget that Midtown Reader offers competitive pricing for your classroom and media center, and all orders through your school are always 20% off.
