Welcome to Midtown Reader’s new blog!

September 2, 2017

We’re excited to share our favorite reads, info on authors, and an occasional article we think you might enjoy.  Midtown Reader is proud to be your neighborhood bookstore for new books in every subject, and to provide content and programming that we hope reflects all the wonderful readers we’ve come to know and love in our hometown of Tallahassee.  From author events, to book clubs to Kidtown Reader story hour on Saturdays, we’ve got your reading needs covered!

And speaking of author events, I have to start our inaugural blog with a shout-out to the fabulous J.C. Sasser, author of the indie favorite Gradle Bird, who was just in store this past Friday evening.  Wow!   What a fun conversation we had with JC who traveled from Edisto Island, SC to talk about her new book.   If you missed Sasser, who critics call “America’s new southern gothic darling”, you’ll want to run by and pick up a copy of her debut novel.  What a treat it was to meet a gal who knew from the time she was 14 years old that she wanted to write, and even knew the story she would write – the tale of an unlikely friendship between a young girl and a grown man with severe mental health challenges, who wanted to be a musician.  Deep South Magazine’s summer reading pick, and shortlisted in the 2015 William Faulkner-William Wisdom novel competition, Gradle Bird is a must read.  And we’ve got a few autographed copies left in store!

Thanks for all the encouragement, support and great reading recommendations you’ve provided us over the last eight months.  We’ll be celebrating our one year anniversary in mid- November.  Stay tuned for information on all the festivities, and in the meantime, keep reading, thinking and sharing!
