Let Midtown Reader Host Your Book Club

Did you know that Midtown Reader’s event space is available for private parties, receptions, and book clubs? On August 3rd, Midtown Reader was transformed into a haven for incoming high school freshmen who love to read. We were so pleased to host the Maclay Book Club for their discussion on The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton’s classic tale of three brothers’ quest for identity among the conflicting values of their adolescent society.

Students quickly abandoned parents and booksellers as they raced upstairs to greet each other joyfully after a long summer apart or waited nervously to meet new classmates, pen and paper in hand. Tucked away among the stacks and settled into comfortable nooks and crannies throughout Midtown Reader’s loft, students discussed their favorite characters, debated intriguing plot points, and shared their experiences with the book. In addition, Lucy & Leo’s provided chocolate cupcakes—which paired well with The Outsiders whose characters eat chocolate cake for breakfast. As the meeting ended, Midtown Reader’s booksellers noted that students were excited as they came down the staircase, with laughter and animated conversations spilling out onto the veranda.

As summer vacations come to an end and you settle into new habits for the changing (hopefully cooler) seasons, we welcome you and your book clubs at Midtown Reader. Our space can accommodate groups of almost any size, and you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages to create an ambience that will stimulate fascinating conversations about your selected books. In addition, Midtown Reader will provide discounts on books selected by your book club—in fact, we already have several shelves dedicated to book clubs throughout the city!

So, as you plan your upcoming book club adventures, please contact Midtown Reader to reserve space and order your selected books. We love hosting readers and offering a cozy, welcoming environment to stimulate discussions about books!
